Diving Equipment
Although the idea of purchasing expensive equipment initially
may scare off some potential divers, once the diving equipment is purchased
the playgrounds to explore are free. The first basic pieces a diver
needs is a mask, fins and a snorkel.
The full mask includes a nose enclosure and must be tempered to withstand
underwater pressure. Fins (don’t call them flippers) can be either
full-footed like a shoe are can have an open heel with a strap across
the back. If the diver is only going to be in warm waters then the full
foot will be fine. Check all diving equipment for defects before purchasing.
Gloves and a wetsuit will protect the diver from stings and scrapes,
along with keeping the diver warm. The technical diving equipment should
be purchased with the assistance of someone who has dived before; these
pieces include the tank or cylinder, the regulator, the octopus (alternate
air source), and pressure gauge.
