Dive Tank

Contrary to popular belief the dive tank is not filled with pure oxygen. The tank is filled with a mixture of gases similar to what we breathe every day. The mixture is about twenty percent oxygen and eighty percent nitrogen.

The tank is usually made from lightweight aluminum. It holds eighty cubic feet of air compressed into a cylinder that is about two feet tall and six inches in diameter. A dive tank can be very heavy sometimes so take great care to not drop or damage the tank.

A dive tank can be filled at the local dive shops. Make sure the dive shop’s air intake is not facing the street where it can unknowingly draw in carbon monoxide. The dive tank itself is required and should be periodically inspected and pressure tested. Never use a less than adequate dive tank.
