Dive Mask
A dive mask allows the diver to see underwater. Even eyes
that can tolerate water cannot see clearly because the way the light
in taken in is affected by the water. A mask gives our eyes the space
between the refractive water and us needed to see.
A dive mask is made from tempered glass that can withstand the pressure
underwater. A “gasket” or skirt of rubber or silicone creates
an airtight seal on the face. Divers can test a mask for quality and
fit by placing the mask on the face without the straps and inhaling,
if the mask stays in place without falling it is a good fit.
Taking good care of the mask will ensure a long lasting product. Wash
and dry the mask after every use. Never leave the mask in direct sunlight
and handle it with care to protect the glass and the integrity of the
seal. Treating the mask delicately will ensure the mask lasts a long
time and protects the investment, as high quality masks can be pricey.
